The Porsche 918 Spyder '13 is a road car produced by Porsche. It first appears in Gran Turismo 7 where it was added as part of Update 1.19.

Introduced by Porsche in 2013, the 918 Spyder succeeded the Carrera GT as the company's flagship model and was its first road-going supercar to feature a hybrid powerplant.

Based on the powertrain of the RS Spyder prototype race car, the 918 Spyder's drive system takes a 599.6 HP 4.6-liter V-8, mounted amidships, and mates it with a single electric motor at the rear. The combined output totals a whopping 886 ps*, enabling the 918 to reach 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds, 200km/h in 7.2 and 300km/h in just 19.9, when equipped with the Weissach Package that reduces the car's curb weight from 3691 lbs to 3602 lbs.

The 918 Spyder, of which only 918 examples were made, claimed a top speed of 350 km/h and lapped the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6 minutes and 57 seconds.

Porsche's fastest plug-in hybrid is this 918 Spyder. A "plug-in hybrid" is a car whose battery can be charged using the mains, without using any engine power. This makes them different from previous hybrid models, whose batteries could only be charged by the engine. This allows plug-in hybrids to have larger batteries, which can also be used to power the car. Hybrid supercars were still very rare when Porsche released this model in 2013. Following on from its predecessor, the legendary 917 racing car, it was at the very top of the Porsche range. It was also quite a revolutionary model, showing how Porsche is very much at the cutting edge of supercar development. Its midship-mounted engine is a 4.6L V8, originally designed for racing cars. This engine alone is capable of producing 603.5 HP. There is also one electric motor powering the rear wheels, and two electric motors powering the front wheels. Taken together, the engine and the motors can produce over 788 HP. The car can also be driven powered by its electric motors along, effectively turning it into a full-on EV!

As Porsche's flagship model... The 918 showcased the company's latest styling DNA and advanced technology. The styling in particular was to leave its mark on future generations of Porsche cars. Note how the dual exhausts at the rear jut out from the car's upper cooling grille. I find this to be an incredibly exciting design choice. Visually-speaking... It almost looks like the car is shouldering a jetpack! Also, consider the four-point LED headlights and rear taillight frame. As you may know, these elements would show up on later Porsche creations. Now, there's one more thing that I really love... And that's the tall, bridge-like centre console. First appearing in the 2003 Carrera GT, it was brought back for the 918. This design language and style has aged beautifully. While perhaps a bit reserved compared to its competition... It remains ever-popular, and the envy of every supercar collector.

A specially liveried version of the car was available from the Michelin Time Trial Challenge event, available from October 19 to 29, 2023. In addition to the car, the world record holder of the event also received an invitation (for the winner and a friend) to attend the 2023 Gran Turismo World Series World Finals in Barcelona, Spain.^[1]

Trivia[]

• The model depicted in the game is equipped with optional magnesium wheels, a standard feature for the Weissach Package. The regular wheels are similar to those used in the Porsche 917 Living Legend.
  • The diffuser from the Weissach Package can be purchased as a customization item in GT Auto.
• The rear wing is permanently stuck up because the state of the active aero system on this car depends on which mode setting it is on and would not be changed by the car's speed (the in-game one is seemingly on the "Speed" mode).
  • If the "Wingless" customization item from GT Auto is selected, the rear wing is retracted permanently, just as if it's on the "Start" mode.
• Despite being a hypercar similarly priced to cars requiring invitations, this car does not need one to be purchased.
• The gearing of the car was not correct upon release. This was fixed in Update 1.31.
• For the Michelin Time Trial version of the car, the car used in the event features Michelin tire stickers, but the tire stickers are not present in the prize version of the car, as the mandatory Michelin tire stickers are controlled through event settings. (Road cars normally cannot be equipped with a manufacturer tire sticker.)
